SKF GEG..ES Series Spherical Plain Bearings: This series is classed as radial spherical plain bearings requiring maintenance. Comprising of sliding contact surfaces of steel against steel these spherical plain bearings are unsealed, they have an extended inner ring and are suited to installations where a spacer sleeve is used in the assembly either side of the inner ring. They require maintenance from time to time in the form of re-lubrication via an annular lubrication groove around its outer and inner rings. Dependent on installation design the lubricant may be passed through the housing or spindle directly into the bearing at any point around the groove which has small holes to direct the lubricant onto the mating surfaces. The GEG12ESA is the exception where it cant be lubricated from the spindle. These are metric sized spherical plain bearings. The GEG..ES series differs from the GEM..ES series only in that the bore of the ball is the same as the width of the ball. The bearings are manganese phosphated and the sliding contact surface is then treated with a running-in lubricant. This reduces friction and wear during the running-in period. Application: Suitable for heavy static, shock or alternating loads. A characteristic of SKF steel / steel spherical plain bearings is the intentionally fractured outer ring enabling it to be sprung apart to insert the ball, thus care needs to be taken when mounting spherical plain bearings with a fractured or split outer ring, it is essential that the joint is positioned at 90 degrees to the direction of load.
