How We Source Parts

This page exists because the honest answer to “where did this part come from?” is a competitive advantage, and refusing to answer it is a red flag. You are being asked to send a part number to a supplier you may not have bought from before. Here is exactly how we operate, including the parts that are not flattering.

We are an independent distributor, and an authorized distributor for some brands

KKM Industrial and Automation Solutions is an independent distributor. For some manufacturers we hold authorized-distributor status, and where that applies the quote says so. For every other manufacturer whose parts appear in this catalog we hold no authorized-distributor agreement, and we never imply otherwise. Manufacturer names, brand names and part numbers are used for identification and compatibility reference only, and remain the property of their owners.

What that costs you: for brands where we are not authorized, an authorized channel can offer warranty administration or application engineering that we cannot. What it buys you: we buy across many sources rather than from one line, so we have no single-brand quota and no incentive to steer you to one brand. When a competing manufacturer’s part is the better answer, we can say so.

Where the parts actually come from

Authorized distribution channels. For some brands we are an authorized distributor; for the rest, the majority of what we supply is bought from authorized distributors and their surplus channels — new, genuine, factory-packaged product.
Vetted surplus and excess inventory. For discontinued, obsolete and allocated parts, the remaining genuine stock frequently sits in the surplus channel long after the manufacturer has declared end-of-life. We buy from surplus suppliers we have transacted with and can trace, never from anonymous marketplace listings.
Direct from manufacturers around the world, where the manufacturer sells direct and the lead time is acceptable.

Condition is disclosed on every quote — always

Parts we supply are new and genuine unless the quote expressly states otherwise. Where a part is new-old-stock, from excess inventory, refurbished or open-box, the quote says so before you approve it. You will never discover the condition of a part when it arrives; if the condition is not what you want, you decline the quote and nothing has happened.

Counterfeit avoidance

Counterfeit components are a real and well-documented risk in industrial and electronic supply, particularly for allocated semiconductors and high-value automation hardware. Our controls are deliberately unglamorous:

We buy from suppliers we have a transaction history with, not from open marketplaces or unverifiable listings.
Where a source cannot be verified, we do not quote it — we tell you we could not source the part rather than quoting something we cannot stand behind.
Pricing that is far below the channel is treated as a warning sign, not an opportunity.
Everything we supply carries our 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Our warranty is the commercial expression of our confidence in the source.

What we will not do

We do not substitute silently. If the exact part is unavailable and we propose an equivalent, the quote identifies it as an equivalent and states what differs.
We do not invent part numbers. If we cannot identify a part from what you send us, we ask — we never guess a number onto a quote.
We do not quote unrated parts into rated applications. For hazardous-area, safety-function or pressure-containing service, we supply the correctly rated part with its documentation or tell you we cannot source it.
We do not claim certifications we do not hold. Where documentation is required, we tell you at quote stage whether we can actually obtain it.

Catalog accuracy

Catalog listings are compiled from manufacturer and distributor data and are provided for part identification. Specifications are cross-checked against manufacturer data when your order is quoted. Listing a part does not guarantee immediate stock — availability is confirmed on the quote, every time. If something on a listing looks wrong to you, tell us and we will verify it against the manufacturer before you buy.

Questions about a specific source
